SOUTH HOPKINS REGIONAL WASTEWATER SYSTEM
New Wastewater Treatment Plant

Project Cost: $3,410,000 (Estimated)

Project Funding: Rural Development Grant & Loan, KIA SRF Loan, Community Development Block Grant

The City of Nortonville hired McGhee Engineering, in the Fall of 2002 to design a new regional wastewater treatment plant. The new plant will be located on the same property as the existing treatment plant, which will have to remain in service during construction. The new plant will use an oxidation ditch for its treatment process and have a rated capacity of 750,000 gallons per day. When completed the new plant will treat wastewater from the Cities of Nortonville, White Plains, and Morton’s Gap. McGhee Engineering has assisted Nortonville through the Pennyrile Area Development District in obtaining funding commitments for the project and has started the design of the proposed treatment plant. When construction begins, McGhee Engineering will provide construction inspection and serve as construction administrator for the project.
CHRISTIAN COUNTY WATER DISTRICT
Apex Area System Extension Project (Phase VI)

It is estimated that 87% of the 480 miles of public road in the Christian County service area are served by the Christian County Water District. The unserved roads are generally spread out over the entire county, and typically have lower population densities, difficult construction conditions, or both. The largest contiguous unserved area at the present time is the Apex area of northeastern Christian County. The main problems facing the District are the need to extend service to new customers, the need for hydraulic improvements in certain areas, and the long-term supply of treated water. The water supply issue is being addressed by Hopkinsville’s ongoing effort to supplement its raw water sources. The remaining problems will be addressed by proposed and future projects to extend and upgrade the distribution system. The proposed project will involve the construction of nearly 18 miles of distribution line in the Apex area, along with a new water storage tank (200,000 gallons) and booster pumping station. The project is estimated to serve a total of 58 new customers in Christian County, and 4 in southern Hopkins County. McGhee Engineering has assisted the District with securing the financing, and the firm is presently completing the design of project
